Recognition is the question every parent asks first, and rightly so. Here is exactly how recognition works for MBBS in Egypt, in plain terms.

WDOMS: the listing that matters
The Egyptian government universities we work with — led by Port Said University — are listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). This is the international registry that NMC India and ECFMG (USA) use to verify foreign medical schools.
That WDOMS listing is what makes a graduate eligible to sit the Indian licensing exam. Without it, a foreign degree cannot be taken forward for registration in India — so it is the single most important thing to check, and the universities here have it.
FMGE / NExT: the licensing exam
To practise medicine in India with a foreign medical degree, you must clear the licensing exam:
- FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination), transitioning to
- NExT (National Exit Test).
This applies to graduates of every foreign medical school — Egypt, Russia, the Philippines, anywhere — not just Egypt. After clearing it you complete a one-year Indian internship and register with the NMC.
Where NEET fits in
A common point of confusion:
- NEET is not required to be admitted to MBBS in Egypt.
- NEET is required if you intend to return to India to practise, because a qualifying NEET score is what makes you eligible to sit FMGE / NExT later.
So if India is part of your long-term plan, take NEET — but it is not a barrier to starting your course in Egypt.
The path to practising in India
- Complete the 5-year MBBS + 2-year internship in Egypt.
- Clear FMGE / NExT.
- Complete a one-year Indian internship.
- Register with the NMC and practise.
What about the Gulf?
If you see your future in the GCC, Egyptian-trained doctors are a familiar, well-regarded fit across the region, where demand for doctors keeps growing. Each country runs its own licensing exam, but an Egyptian MBBS puts you on a strong footing.
In short
The degree is from a WDOMS-listed government university, which is what NMC India relies on for FMGE / NExT eligibility. Pair that with NEET (if India is your goal), clear the licensing exam, and you can practise.
